The SunStar website empowers Philippine communities by providing news and information from the provinces to a national and global audience. It was created in 1996, first as a website of SunStar Cebu. On May 10, 2000, www.sunstar.com.ph became home to the only network of community newspapers in the country. It pools news and information from SunStar newspapers and networks in 12 major cities in the Philippines.
Major cities covered are Manila, Baguio, Pampanga, and Pangasinan in Luzon; Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo, Dumaguete, and Tacloban in the Visayas; and Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and Zamboanga in Mindanao.
The website is updated 24/7 and carries information in text, photos, slideshow, videos, and newscasts. It has live streaming of events and video reports of news and features. It is interactive and provides electronic formats of the different SunStar community newspapers throughout the country.
It won as Best Website (newspaper category) in the 4th Digital Filipino Web Awards given in Manila in 2010. It also won as Best Website (corporate category) in the Catholic Mass Media Awards of 2009 given by then Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.
The website is managed by the SunStar Digi+ (Digital Plus) team that is leading the transformation of SunStar into a media group armed with digital capabilities to produce a variety of content for multiple platforms. The Digi+ is also tasked with developing and implementing a strategy to expand the SunStar audience through digital channels (website, social media).
