Majstorovic says he is proud to join Celtic -

Celtic have announced the signing of Sweden international centre-half Daniel Majstorovic on a two-year deal.

The 33-year-old arrives from AEK Athens and played in Sweden's 3-0 win against Scotland in Stockholm last week.

There is no fee for Majstorovic, since he was released by the cash-strapped Greek club with a year to run on his contract after two seasons in Athens.

Meanwhile, Honduras World Cup defender Emilio Izaguirre, 24, is holding talks with the Glasgow club.

Izaguirre plays for Motagua in his homeland and featured against Chile and Spain in South Africa, but missed his country's match against Switzerland.

Majstorovic will be available for Celtic's Europa League clash against Utrecht on Thursday with Lennon able to add one wild card to his registered squad up to 24 hours before kick-off.

And Lennon's eighth summer signing, who signed only a week after the Glasgow club first expressed an interest in him, cannot wait to get started in his bid to win over the supporters at Celtic Park.

MY SPORT: DEBATE

"First of all they will see a player who always gives 100% on the field," said the imposing central defender.

"To take back the title for Celtic is very important.

"Last week I was focused for the season coming up with AEK Athens. We played very well in pre-season.

"I wasn't thinking about this but when you have an opportunity to be part of this massive club with fans all over the world and with a great reputation in Europe, then I'm very happy.

"I'm a winner and I want to be part of this club."

If he is to face the Dutch later in the week, Majstorovic, who has also played for Malmo, FC Twente and Basle, will have to oust either Glenn Loovens or Jos Hooiveld from the Celtic starting 11 that started against Inverness on Sunday.

He added: "Wherever I have been, I was playing and I was an important player for the team.

"I tried to be a leader in the team and I will do the same here. It is a big club with winners in all the positions but I'm still very, very hungry even though I'm 33."
