Charlton boss Alan Curbishley says recalled defender Paul Konchesky will not get a bad reception when he trains with the Addicks on Wednesday.
Konchesky's loan spell at Spurs was ended by Curbishley after Charlton were hit by a series of injuries.
And the defender has said last week it would be "horrible" to return to The Valley after his four months away.
"With our current problems and so many games over Christmas, we need him in our squad," said Curbishley.
"We were fully stretched against Newcastle on Saturday so I've recalled Paul from his loan and informed both him and [Spurs caretaker-boss] David Pleat."
Konchesky can now only return to Tottenham if they decide to sign him on a permanent deal.
Charlton host Chelsea on Boxing Day without Shaun Bartlett, Luke Young, Richard Rufus, Gary Rowett and Kevin Lisbie.
On-loan Chelsea striker Carlton Cole is also unavailable, due to the terms of the deal between the two clubs.
