Old Firm old boys prove popular
Old Firm old foes: Terry Butcher and Frank McAvennie

Terry Butcher insists he will be just as determined to beat Celtic this weekend as he was when he was the Rangers captain.

Old Firm legends meet on Sunday for a charity clash at Ibrox, giving Butcher the chance to turn out once again for the Light Blues.

The match is further proof of how much the Glasgow giants dominate the Scottish football scene, with ticket sales already reaching the 25,000 mark and organisers predicting a gate of 40,000.

Butcher said: "Football is definitely a lot faster now and I've been lucky enough to see the two Old Firm games this season, which have been unbelievable.

"I know the pace of the game on Sunday won't be like that but you try telling Rangers and Celtic supporters that it's going to be an easy, quiet Old Firm game.

Laughs and jokes

"There will be laughs and jokes between the players but when we go out there it will be serious.

"It's all for a good cause but there will be that element of going out there and facing them again - I haven't had the chance to kick a Celtic player for many years!"

Former Parkhead star Frank McAvennie will feature in the Celtic side and he hopes to create the same atmosphere he experienced in Old Firm games of the past.

He said: "We thought we would just be here as spectators so it's great to get the call to play in an Old Firm game.

"People still ask me now what it's like to play in an Old Firm game and it's hard to explain, so to get the chance to play in another one is great.

Biggest game in the world

"This is the biggest game in the world and even though we are older it's still going to be a tremendous game.

"There will be a big crowd there, it will have the atmosphere and you can't get that anywhere else in the world."

Also taking part are Chris Woods and Graham Roberts and the meeting of all four will spark memories of the infamous Old Firm court case in 1987.

Woods, Butcher and McAvennie were all red-carded during the 2-2 game and the trio - along with Roberts - had to answer charges of "behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace" in a court case that followed.

The former Celtic star and Roberts escaped without punishment but Woods and Butcher were fined.

Rangers squad: Chris Woods, John Brown, Graham Roberts, Terry Butcher, Tom Forsyth, Ally Dawson, Trevor Steven, Bobby Russell, Ray Wilkins, Robert Prytz, Mark Hateley, Nigel Spackman, Brian Laudrup, Andy Goram, Mark Walters, Neale Cooper.

Celtic squad: Pat Bonner, Danny McGrain, Tommy Burns, Peter Grant, Mick McCarthy Alan McInally, Andy Walker, Brian McClair, Billy Stark, Frank McAvennie, Roy Aitken, Willie McStay, Tosh McKinlay, Owen Archdeacon, Jim McInally, Frank McGarvey.
