Former Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal (2000-2012)

Sir Gerard Brennan became a Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal in 2000.

Sir Gerard Brennan was born in Australia in 1928. He obtained a BA and LLB from the University of Queensland. He was admitted to the Queensland Bar in 1951 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 1965.

In 1976, Sir Gerard Brennan was appointed a Judge of the Australian Industrial Court and an Additional Judge of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. He was appointed a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia in 1977. In 1981, he was appointed to the Bench of the High Court of Australia. From 1995 to 1998, he served as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia.

Sir Gerard Brennan was knighted in 1981. In 1988, he was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2013. He died in 2022.
