Dim ond tri
Ty Dduw sydd yn dal yn agored yn Rhiw, mae Capel Tan-y-Foel wedi cau ac wedi
cael ei droi yn dy ers tro byd. ac mae Eglwys St Aelrhiw wedi cau ei ddrysau
erbyn heddiw hefyd. Y rheswm mwyaf am hyn dwin siwr yw'r
di boblogi mawr sydd wedi bod yma yn y blynyddoedd diwaethaf, fel llawer
o bentrefi eraill Llyn. Does neb wedi dod i fynu efo ateb ir broblem
hon, ac mae'n siwr i chi y bydd blynyddoedd cyn gwneith rhywun hefyd. |

There's
only three places of worship left open at Rhiw today. Tan-y- Foel
Chapel
was turned into a house some time ago and in the last couple of years
St Aelrhiw closed its door for the last time. The biggest reason for this
must be the de population of the village, Rhiw is not alone in this,
as
its a pattern throughout Llyn.

Llanfaelrhys
church is quite beautiful and peaceful in a very nice part of
the
village, on the cliff edge overlooking the sea. Its just a short walk
from Porth Ysgo Rhiw's nicest beach. The interior is very beautiful with
a red carpet leading you up the aisle. I often spend time here looking
at the guest book, as we get visitors from all over the world. Its open
all day throughout the summer and its well worth a visit. Sunday Services
2pm. |

Capel Pisgah

In 1877 it was decide to build a
chapel and land valued at £25 was donated by Mrs Williams of Tyddyn Meirion.
The chapel cost £544 and the money was raised by donations and loans, The
families of Meillionydd and Meillionydd bach became great supporters and
benefactors of the chapel and it was finally opened in 1878. Services are still
held there, although sadly not on a regular basis due to a dwindling
congregation and lack of ministers in the region. |

Morgan the
Sieve-maker from Bwlch Rhiw was one of the first nonconformists.
In 1745 he was taken to the court in Pwllheli where he was jailed
for not renouncing his religious beliefs. He was sentenced to serve his
imprisonment on an old prison ship in England. After his release he returned
to Rhiw and began preaching again whereupon he was re-arrested and
sent back to the prison ship, this time he did not return home. He was
persecuted by the prison officers and on one
occasion they shot at him however the
gun contained only powder, but poor Morgan didn’t know this and
he died later from shock. |
