The Australian today notes that TEN has commissioned a 13-part family drama series from its telemovie Offspring.
The telemovie produced by John Edwards (Tangle, Rush, Dangerous, The Secret Life of Us) and Imogen Banks (Tangle) for Southern Star features Asher Keddie in a story of the impossible loves of 30-something obstetrician Nina Proudman, and her fabulously messy family, as they navigate the chaos of modern life. Offspring has been described as a “buoyant romantic comedy.”
It will also feature Don Hany, John Waters, Kat Stewart and Deb Mailman.
Filming on the series starts in May.

To @Steve; the band is Touch and Go and the song is called “Would You go to Bed with Me”. Love it!
yeah….what is the name of that trumpet song…its the one where a girl giggles through it and says ‘ah…do you want to go to bed with me?’
Looks like a interesting and funny show. Does anyone know the name of the trumpet theme music played in the TV Ad for Offspring?
Can’t wait for the series to start. Another brilliant Aussie drama with such talented actors. My little girl is an extra as baby Ray…
Good luck to all.

Yay john waters! I miss him after all saints.
And sillygostly, packed to the rafters isnt rubbish.
Fan-bloody-tastic cast, writters and scripts. This will be one to watch peeps. Its just fantastic that ten are begginning to finally commission new australian shows. This will obviously be 13 episodes plus the 2 hr telemovie.
Tomothy…. have you seen Love My Way? I take it you have not as yet… watch it… you will develop (well I would hope) a love for Asher… she is superb!!
Glad she has finally got a lead, as she is.
Just what we need another John Edwards drama. Isn’t it time he came up with a new idea & some new actors? I guess the pretentious will love this one.
Script is by Debra Oswald.
Based on most of Edwards’ output I’m certainly looking forward to this. Happy to celebrate a prolific producer.
Loved Asher since Love My Way. Can’t wait for this.
I dont like Asher Keddie’s character on Rush, but shes a great actress, good on her. Hopefully Jacinta dies in Rush, we need a death.
Asher Keddie, Noooooo! I can’t stand her. I am dying for her to leave Rush. I’ll check it out, but I am already put off by Asher.
Looks like a good cast there and Deb Mailman always does a great job so it will be good to have her back on TV.
Fantastic!! Lets hope the network keeps it on. sadly people want things like Rafters…Love JE productions…even Rush!
The Australian is behind in news this was in Sat Herald…
Will they be showing the telemovie or was that a pilot that wont air?
Yes should kick off with telemovie then series.
I’m also so glad that they’re commissioning a non-police drama. Thank you thank you thank you!
Really really looking forward to this! Asher is amazing! Does this mean she will soon be written out of ‘Rush’ though?
What’s this? An FTA network commissioning a non-crime drama?! =O
Thank God. I’ll be watching as long as it’s not anything like that lowest common denominator rubbish Packed to the Rafters, I’ll probably like it.
Can’t wait to see Deb Mailman back on telly – she’s been sorely missed.
This sounds brilliant! I love family dramas and Asher keddie is one of my favourite actresses.
