Written by prolific novelist J.M. Clements (Pirate King, Marco Polo), the first in the book series is titled Spartacus: Swords and Ashes and is available this month. It captures the legendary Thracian’s battles beyond the series, giving fans a whole different set of adventures they won’t see onscreen.
Here’s the official description:
Betrayed by the Romans. Forced into slavery. Reborn as a Gladiator. Torn from his homeland and the woman he loves, Spartacus is condemned to the brutal world of the arena where blood and death are primetime entertainment. But not all battles were fought upon the sands. Treachery, corruption, and the allure of sensual pleasures will constantly test Spartacus. To survive, he must become more than a man, more than a gladiator. He must become a legend.
The series’ second season, Spartacus: Vengeance, premieres Jan. 27 on Starz.
