The Bahamas’ Parliamentary Registration Department has confirmed that the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) won last Thursday’s General Election by a landslide.
The PLP won 32 of the 39 seats in the House of Assembly while the Free National Movement (FNM) took the remaining seats.
Included in the 39 Members of Parliament are seven women.
This is the largest group of women to be elected to the House of Assembly in the country’s history.
PLP Member of Parliament for Englerston Glenys Hanna-Martin had one of the highest margins of victory at just over 75 per cent of the electorate.
Just over 195,000 people were eligible to participate in the polls and preliminary figures show around 65 per cent of voters participated.
This was by far one of the lowest turn-out of electors in a country where around 90 per cent of people vote.
