On March 26, 2023, at the 10th Open Source Operating System Annual Technical Conference (OS2ATC), we proudly unveiled ROMA, the world’s first native RISC-V laptop. Our esteemed partner, Xcalibyte, played an integral role in ensuring the successful release of this groundbreaking product, which they showcased at the conference.
During the press conference, Yanwen Lu, the Product Director of Xcalibyte and the owner of the ROMA product, presented the design and functionality of the laptop. In addition, Yuning Liang, the Founder and CEO of Xcalibyte, provided an overview of the challenging process that led to the development of ROMA.
We also used the opportunity to announce our strategic partnership with openKylin and invited Dr. Jie Yu, the Technical Director of the openKylin community, to provide an update on the progress and plans for the openKylin operating system in RISC-V. We also disclosed that ROMA will pre-install and support the openKylin system, which has been optimized for the RISC-V special technology, including the kernel & support layer, scalable operating system architecture, and hardware device drivers. The software ecosystem includes openKylin self-developed, FireFox, DingTalk, and others.
Calista Redmond, CEO of the RISC-V International, extended her congratulations on the official debut of ROMA. She expressed her recognition of the product and confidence in the future development of the RISC-V ecosystem.
The birth of the world’s first RISC-V laptop is the result of the hard work and dedication of many individuals. As the company that produced this pioneering product, we acknowledge the difficulties involved in the process, but the eventual success fills us with great pride and optimism.
ROMA may not be perfect at this stage, but we remain committed to working with other ambitious partners to build the RISC-V hardware and software ecosystem and enhance the product’s capabilities. The joint construction of the RISC-V ecosystem is a testament to the support of our strategic partners and the unwavering trust of ROMA’s customers in us.
