I have a vanilla google calendar that I've been using with Google Calendar on Android. I do not see any birthdays in that app. Similarly I do not see birthdays via the web. Both app and web have a "Birthdays" toggle that make them appear. They seem to be connected to Google Contacts (and list them as the source). I've tried two calendar apps on Android (Fossify and Digical) via davx5 and they each show these (presumably the same) birthdays as regular calendar events. I do not want them to show up. I presume it is Google that is presenting these events "virtually" to CalDav. Is there a way to suppress them? |

Normally birthday events are in a separate "birthday" calendar - not mixed into another. You should be able to disable any (birthday) calendar you don't want to show up in the respective calendar app. In the fossify settings it's in the CALDAV section "Manage synced calendars". I don't know about Digical, but I assume you can disable specific calendars there too. You can also simply disable synchronization for the calendar in DAVx5 of course. If there are birthday events in a regular calendar which you want use, you could simply delete these events or move them to another dedicated birthday calendar which you create yourself. Thank you, that helps in that it confirms my expectations. However it is not what I see :). I'll be more specific.
I've since also tried the above without davx5 (ie using an install of the Google calendar app to provide the sync'd calendars and the result is the same, a merged calendar. This means that's it's not a davx5 problem but either a Google caldav one, or a fossify calendar one (although I see the merged calendar in other calendar apps too, like the specifically tested digical). Google calendar (app or web) clearly can tell the difference so I'm wondering if davx5 (or client calendar apps) could too. Finally, I'm a little surprised that this hasn't been raised before (here or elsewhere) |

No, this is actually the first time I hear of it. But like you say it's not really in the power of DAVx5 to do anything about it. Maybe you can find out more in the help pages? https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/13748346?visit_id=638826332051335850-500809588&rd=1&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1 I tried it out myself right now, but I event when I enable the birthdays in the google calendar my contacts birthdays don't show up. I am pretty sure it's possible to find some setting/setup or workaround, but I fear at the moment I can't help you much more than this. Maybe someone else knows. |

Ah, that's great to know! This is the birthday event they speak about in the support request. Birthday type events are however not part of the calendar standard (RFC 5545, RFC 7986) so DAVx5 is not inclined to do a google specific workaround here. |

Yes, I'd support and agree on that stance. To their credit they've allowed us to disable these extensions at least. |
