On account setup, DAVx5 wipes some of my contacts #1462

I'm not sure what happened with your phone but DAVx⁵ can't change or delete anything that is not flagged with the DAVx5 authority. It can only sync contacts where you set the DAVx5 account as storage point to the server and only contacts that have been synced to the device by DAVx5 before can also be synced back. Locally stored contacts can't be accessed by the app. Something to consider: Android has a built-in mechanic to "merge" contacts that seem to be the same. So if a contact is stored locally and then a synced one by DAVx5 comes to the device "looking the same" for Android the system merges it into one "viewable" contact. For your problem with calendar sync: please click the error and download the archive. then open a ticket and send it to us - maybe we can help or diagnose the root of the problem → davx5.com/support. |

Problem scope
App version
Android version and device/firmware type
Android 15, Pixel 8, DAVx5 4.4.10-gplay
Steps to reproduce
I am using a non-stock contacts app and had issues with contacts vanishing.
I couldn't pinpoint it at all, even when not interacting with the contacts or phone app for days at some point I would open it again and notice "well some are missing again, wtf!!".
Turns out it wasn't the contacts app.
On setup of my account I select only the calendar - I don't sync my contacts with anything, not even GBackup.
Yet in a flash of thought, I could easily reproduce - as soon as I do the initial setup, DAVx5 wipes (some of) my "phone" contacts - it cannot touch "phone local" (created within the other app - makes sense).
Actual result
DAVx5 wipes some contacts (chosen by = ?!?!??!? idk).
Expected result
Why does the app even touch my contacts when I am not even syncing them...
Further info
As a workaround (and countercheck that there is no AfterSyncFirstStartup thingy in a contacts app - I am not aware but you never know nowadays...) I revoked the permission for contacts - recreated the account mapping, worked perfectly without any contact vanishing.
"why tf are you constantly remapping your account?? :O"
Rarely, when editing calendar entries I get some stupid error that the app cannot recover from that requires appdata wiping. I'm currently too busy to debug this properly and file a proper report, therefore this was my workaround for this (again, rather rare) instance.
While I'm at it: Otherwise, great app, love it! 😎👍👍
