Western influences on Japanese Art during the Momoyama and Edo periods (16th-19th centuries)
After a tour across Japan last October-November 2013, the composer and shakuhachi player Rodrigo Rodriguez has recorded a new album: The Road of Hasekura Tsunenaga. Music for shakuhachi flute inspired by the Hasekura’s trip to Europe that lasted seven years (1613-1620). Rodrigo was welcomed in Sendai Prefecture, and played 2 concerts for the wishing of recovering of the areas of Ishinomaki (Ishinomaki Grand Hotel Nov. 7th) and Sendai (Zelcova Gall, Sendai Ikuei School). The 2013 tour was sponsored by Embassy of Spain in Tokyo, Casa Galicia Japón.
In this regard, another recomentable album inspired by the contacts and relations between Japan and Europe was recorded by Jordi Savall and Hespèrion XXI – La Capella Reial de Catalunya in 2006: Francisco Javier 1506-1553. La Ruta de Oriente, born to commemorate Francis Xavier’s arrival in Japan in a concert performed in 10th July 1996: 1549 Riutals & Prophecies. Japan & Spain in the time of Saint Francis Xavier. Ten years later, in 2006, most of the original group of Spanish and Japanese musicians came together to mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of Francis Xavier and recorded that complete and fascinating CD/book.
