Abstract
One year after the 1963 Skopje earthquake, the first Yugoslavian Code for Construction in Seismic Regions (temporary code 1964), was prepared by a committee consisting of international and national experts. In spite of the fact that seismic activity had been severe in Yugoslavia, earthquake forces had not been considered in the design or construction of structures. The first seismic map of Yugoslavia was prepared in 1950 by Professor J. Mihailovic, who used historical earthquakes that had occurred on the Balkan Peninsula.
