Bellmon Not Sold On TV Deal
Gov. Henry Bellmon said Tuesday he is "not persuaded it would be a good thing" for the state's public television foundation to buy KGMC-TV, Channel 34.
Bob Allen, executive director of the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority, said Friday that the OETA Foundation needed to raise $1 million by Aug. 17 to buy Channel 34.
Allen said the Oklahoma City station would permit OETA to expand its programming and could become the base for developing a second educational TV network in the state.
Asked what he thought about the possible purchase, Bellmon said, "I'm not directly involved in that arrangement but at the moment I am not persuaded it would be a good thing.
"We've got an educational television system in this state and I'm not sure there's any need to double their coverage." BIOG: NAME:
