CBS is going all the way with three of its rookie series, handing full-season pickups to dramas God Friended Me and Magnum P.I. and comedy The Neighborhood. A network rep declined to say how many additional episodes of each series were specifically ordered, but TVLine is hearing nine for Neighborhood and seven apiece for Magnum and God Friended Me.
God Friended Me, starring Mayor breakout Brandon Micheal Hall, debuted on Oct. 1 with an impressive 10.5 million total viewers and a 1.4 demo rating — an improvement on both Wisdom of the Crowd‘s year-ago opener (8.8 mil/1.3) and Season 1 average (7 mil/0.9). Its numbers have dipped slightly since, with last Sunday’s episode drawing 8 million viewers and a 1.1 in the demo.
The Jay Hernandez-fronted Magnum P.I. bowed last month to 8.1 million viewers and a 1.2, which was well below the 9 mil/2.0 that Kevin Can Wait/Me, Myself & I averaged in the hour a year ago. In its most recent Monday outing, the show drew 5.5 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.
Lastly, The Neighborhood, starring Cedric the Entertainer and Max Greenfield, is up 14 percent over CBS’ Monday-at-8 pm performance last season.
The three series join the previously announced FBI as freshman shows scoring full-season orders at CBS.
TVLine’s 2019 Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect today’s pickups.
I’ve been extremely disappointed in the new Magnum show. It doesn’t even come close to the old show with Tom Sellick in the role!!
None of the characters ‘ring true’ and I have no interest in continuing to watch. Three episodes were enough!!
I agree. I watched the first couple of episodes and then was out. Thereâs no spark? to the show
I agree also. I’m watching but honestly if it were to disappear I wouldn’t cry.
That’s where I am too. It’s decent entertainment but I won’t be sad when it ends.
I completely disagree. I like it. The chemistry with Magnum and Higgins is great. I watched the original Magnum and I am glad they have tweaked it. The casting is perfect.
They could not duplicate that. It was best to move on. Working together in the cases might turn out ok. The show’s got me with Tim Kang from The Mentalist, previously. I hope Owain Yeoman finds his way onto the show, also.
I love the show! I’m enjoying the fresh take on the characters and Jay Hernandez is hot! So glad to see this show get a full season order, let’s hope it also eventually gets picked up for a 2nd season!
I didn’t care for the pilot, but have really enjoyed subsequent episodes. Glad it got a full order!
I am enjoying the show too. Not sure itâs realistic to expect it to be exactly like the original.
It’s lacking something. I’ll keep watching in case they find it.
Iâm very happy about God Friended Me. Itâs an old fashioned feel good about yourself and the world show. And the cast is terrific. I wish it was more than 7 however
Exactly.
A little hokey? Maybe, but thereâs a time and a place for everything, even a little cheese. This scratches that itch very well for me.
Is Into The Bandlands coming back?
The first part of the season ended abruptly.
Thank you

Love ITB.
The next 8 episodes of season 3 will be aired sometime in early 2019 I’m guessing. AMC hasn’t released an air date for the second half yet.
Happy about God Friended Me …I was really skeptical to begin with but now I’m really enjoying this show.
I’m on the fence with The Neighborhood…I love the cast but I hardly laugh. I miss superior donuts.
Surprised Magnum PI got a full season. I wonder how low it will go in ratings.
If Magnum does well in time shifting ratings then it helps with CBS. Airdate ratings aren’t as important. It gives CBS a chance to know whether it will do well by the end. I could see them moving Blue Bloods and putting Magnum, McGyver and Hawaii 5-O together. Although so far it has improved it’s Monday performance, but we’ll see if it lasts or is moved.
They will not move Blue Bloods from Friday night that would be crazy to do that
They need to try Magnum in the post Survivor spot and see if it does better there at holding on to the survivor lead in…
Air date ratings are what really counts and not time shifted ratings. What actually counts is who watches the commercials and the air date ratings typically correspond almost exactly with the commercial ratings. Advertisers don’t care if you watch the show but they care if you watch the commercials. If people DVR the show and then skip the commercials, it basically doesn’t count.
Not sure this is as true anymore. Time shifted ratings probably give some indication of streaming viability.
Iâd rather have Kevin (probably) Saves the Workd back. Isnât this just a knock off of that?
Not really. The executions of the “guy helps strangers” premise are quite different. There’s also no clear proof of the divine like there was in Kevin. I’d say God Friended Me is closer to Early Edition.
Oh mannnn I loved Early Edition. Kyle Chandler fan 4 life â¤ï¸
Sucks with CBS how they donât stream on anything so I donât bother trying to find the shows elsewhere…
Actually, the CBS app on android is a great place for cbs shows. They usually halve the most current episode for free, and they support chromecast. So that is one way to watch.
Have you not heard of CBS All Access? Itâs available through Amazon Prime, its stand-alone app, etc. It is an additional costâlike Netflix, Hulu, FilmStruckâbut you can get commercial-free acess to a LOT of CBS content, including all 30 seasons of The Amazing Race, The Good Fight (the excellent Good Wife spin-off), and the new Star Trek show, among many others.
Awesome for God Friended Me, just need to hear good news about The Conners, now!
With Magnum getting a full-season, the planned crossover with H50 is likely going to happen now.
The original Magnum PI was lightening in a bottle. Jay Hernandez is totally wrong to try and reinvent Thomas Magnum. He is way too different from Tom Selleck.
Ha! He was only the actor who got hired! The writing is the weak point, and Iâm guessing the writers have their hands tied by some parameters. They should find their way., eventually. I keep thinking that I can write the scene better. Hopefully, it will shake lose of that. I went through the same thing with McGyver, which has me in its throes, now.
Hernandez is a different Magnum, just as Alex O’Loughlin is a different Steve McGarrett and Lucas Till is different MacGyver. I agree that the writing needs work, but I see potential with the new Magnum.
In my opinion, the premise of God Friended Me is closer to Joan of Arcadia (the complete 2 season series is thankfully available on DVD for a very reasonable price). The big Question to me is not Who is ‘God’?, but how long will the writers drag out that central mystery.
They are not comparing performance consistently. They are comparing Magnum with the fall performance if KCW when TBBT was leading the night. But they are comparing Neibirhood with KCW performance later in the season and not against CBS fall performance aka TBBT.
Really liked God Friended Me
I am very happy to hear both the Neighborhood and Magnum got picked up. I really like both.
I expected GFM to do well on Sunday, but I haven’t seen it yet.
Hooray! I’m happy to hear this news.
It is great to have one full night on one network again. I’d prefer FBI moved to exchange places with NCIS LA, but
As for Magnum – I learned with the return of MacGuyver that the reboots most likely will NOT be a retool of the original. Gave up on Mac with ep 2 and don’t regret it. Magnum, on the other hand, is interesting, well written, has a great cast and ability to evolve. Translation: I’m enjoying it.
Brandon Micheal Hall announced on his Instagram it was picked up for 9 more episodes not 7 either way a full season is an good thing for the former “mayor” I need to catch up so much tv.
If that’s true, then I don’t know why “God Friended Me” is only getting seven additional episodes for this season while the size of “The Neighborhood”‘s back order is nine episodes.
Sitcoms cost pennies on the dollar versus a drama filmed in our great city of New York. âMgmt
I am very happy about God Friended Me. I like Happy Together much better then The Neighborhood I hope it gets a full season..
This! I will be very upset if Happy Together didn’t get picked up a full season.
I agree about HT vs. TN!
Great news!!!
They really need to keep Happy Together and order more episodes. I’ve laughed out loud through each one so far. If people aren’t sticking around for it after The Neighborhood, then check it out. Best new sitcom of the season, in my opinion. I wish they’d switched the schedule and had Happy Together as the lead in. It’s really funny (I didn’t care for The Neighborhood).
Not all that surprising.
CBS is generally (maybe not always, but generally) slower to pull the plug than other networks.
But giving a show a full season is (often) a long way from renewal for a 2nd season.
That’s awesome, so happy to have more Magnum PI! One of my favorite new shows of the season!! Loving the new Higgens too, she’s awesome!
I get God Friended Me and The Neighborhood but really Magnum P.I.? The standards keep on getting lower at CBS. Magnum isn’t doing especially well but CBS must see something. However congrats to fans
I was so very closed-minded and determined not to watch the reboot of “Magnum”. But, at the very last minute, I decided to watch it. I simply love it! Love the cast, and, of course, the gorgeous scenery is always a plus! I see a couple of the characters from “Hawaii Five-O” have made an appearance on the show. So, I can definitely see a cross-over or two in the near future, possibly around sweeps week?
yay! I love the new Magnum! great news !
Happy to see Magnum has been extended .It might have stared a bit slow but give it a chance .Like how they updated Higgens for the modern days .
So….how many episodes, exactly, constitutes a full-season order nowadays? 13? 22?
We love God Friended Me, but don’t like the new Magnum show or The Neighborhood. Please keep God Friended Me!! Awesome and fun show, finally!!
