Back to the roots: Reducing evolutionary rate heterogeneity among sequences gives support for the early morphological hypothesis of the root of Siluriformes (Teleostei: Ostariophysi)
Abstract
Morphological and molecular phylogenies of Siluriformes differ in the oldest split. Siluriformes show a remarkable evolutionary rate heterogeneity among lineages. Molecular phylogenies may be incorrect due to strong lineage evolutionary rate heterogeneity. New molecular data are analyzed with the new LSX method to homogenize lineage rates. The new dataset with homogenized lineage rates yields the morphological hypothesis.
