House Finch - (Carpodacus mexicanus)

House Finch photo copyright by James E. Kuhn A common colorful year-round resident in Imperial Valley that visits grain fields and backyard bird feeders.

The males' reddish color becomes even brighter during the breeding season.

At one time, these western finches were sold in pet shops back east as "The Hollywood Finch." The ones that were released there have formed an expanding eastern population.
