Bath & Bristol
Claverton (Part of Bath & Bristol Branch)
The Branch's 'area of interest' stretches from Dundas Aqueduct in the east, through the World Heritage City of Bath where the canal joins the River Avon, and on to the western end of the Canal at Hanham Lock on the outskirts of Bristol. The Claverton Pumping Station, a unique waterwheel-driven pump that feeds water from the River Avon up to the Canal, falls within the Bath and Bristol Branch's area.
The Branch also has responsibility for one of the Trust's trip boats. The narrowboat 'Jubilee' operates from Brassknocker Basin, which is at the eastern end of the short section of the Somerset Coal Canal that adjoins the Kennet and Avon Canal at Dundas. The well-appointed 30-seat 'Jubilee' is available for public and charter trips, either east towards Bradford on Avon or west towards Bath.
Claverton Pumping Station is a
waterwheel powered beam engine
built in 1813 to raise water from the
river Avon to the Kennet & Avon Canal.
It has been restored by volunteers and
is now open to the public.
Claverton is 5 miles south of Bath off the A36 Warminster road, 400yards down Ferry Lane across the uncontrolled level crossing. The pump is approx 25 mins walk from Dundas Aqueduct. Free admission for children under 16 (must be accompanied by an adult).

Bradford on Avon
Situated at the Bradford on Avon Wharf Cottage,
this branch has a tearoom with both hot and cold refreshments as well as a small shop.
Also available are trips on the ‘Barbara McLellan’ boat.
Devizes
Situated on Devizes Wharf, this branch is the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust's headquarters. On site is availablea gift shop and our canal museum, as well as a trip boat, the 'Kenavon Venture'.
The museum is housed in the historic bonded warehouse on
Devizes Wharf. It exhibits chronicle the rise and fall of the canal as a commercial waterway and its subsequent restoration by volunteers.

Crofton
Beam Engines
1812 Boulton & Watt and Harvey
beam engines regularly steamed from hand stoked, coal fired Lancashire Boiler. Amazing industrial archaeology in a rural setting.
From Marlborough, either take the A346 to Burbage & follow brown ‘Beam Engines’ sign, or take the A4 towards Hungerford, turn right, ‘Beam Engines’ sign before Froxfield & continue to follow brown signs, through Great Bedwyn, to the pumping station. From Hungerford, take the A338 towards Salisbury, turn right at Shalbourne following the signs to Great Bedwyn, then follow brown signs. From Salisbury, follow the signs to Hungerford on the A338, then turn left at East Grafton & follow brown signs.

Hungerford
The stretch of the Canal that falls into Hungerford Branch's 'area of interest' is from Kintbury in the east to Great Bedwyn in the west. The River Dun parallels the Canal from Kintbury, through Hungerford and onwards across Freeman's Marsh, a large open nature reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. From Froxfield, the canal climbs steadily through open farmland towards the villages of Little and Great Bedwyn.
The main activity of the Hungerford Branch is the running of the trip boat 'Rose of Hungerford', which operates public and charter trips from the Wharf near The Canal Bridge at the bottom of High Street, Hungerford.
Newbury
The Newbury Branch is based at the Stone Building beside the Canal on Newbury's historic wharf. The Stone Building houses the Tea Shop by the Canal, which is open daily from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm for light refreshments, cakes, sandwiches, ice creams and canal gifts. Upstairs in the Branch's meeting room is a fine display of local canal history, with particular reference to John Gould MBE, who was one of the group who formed a Branch of the Inland Waterways Association in 1949 to fight for the Canal to remain navigable.

Exciting News: a new trip boat on its way for 2012 - watch this space!
The Branch is very active, with a full monthly programme of talks or social events. The Newbury Branch proudly organizes the Newbury Waterways Festival each year, normally on the last Sunday of July. The event takes place at Victoria Park, opposite the Stone Building and Newbury Wharf. Over 30 boats assemble for the event and the park becomes packed with stalls, sideshows, live entertainment and food outlets.The Newbury Waterways Festival 2012 will take place on 22nd July. More details to follow but please make a note in your diary now!
Reading
The Reading Branch of the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust dates from the start of the campaign in 1955 to save the Canal from formal abandonment. The Branch operates the successful Canal Shop and Information Centre at Aldermaston and they have an active itinerant sales stand that can, on request, attend events anywhere in the Home Counties.

The Canal Shop is located just east of the lift-bridge that carries the A340 across the Canal beside Aldermaston Lock, and sells refreshments, sweets, ice creams and souvenirs. The Shop’s garden offers an ideal venue for picnics, and ample free car parking is nearby. We are open all year.

The Bradford on Avon Branch has a thriving Volunteer group who manage, maintain and operate the Trusts popular Trip boat Barbara McLellan. As well as this our volunteers look after the gardens and grounds of the Wharf Tea Rooms which have won awards in the Bradford on Avon gardens competition.The Tea Rooms are managed on our behalf by Victoria Kisogliou.
We are always keen to welcome new volunteers whether you are interested in gardening, helping to maintain or crew the boat or to help us manage the Branch. Necessary training and support are always available as is a warm welcome.
