Rebranding of Continuum, Berg and Bristol Classical Press

November 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bloomsbury Publishing Plc ("Bloomsbury")
Rebranding of Continuum, Berg and Bristol Classical Press

Bloomsbury announces changes to academic brands and imprints.

In 2008, Bloomsbury decided to invest in building a new academic division. Since then, our academic portfolio has grown rapidly and now includes Continuum, T&T Clark, Berg Publishers, Methuen Drama, Arden Shakespeare, Bristol Classical Press, Fairchild Books, AVA, and our home grown Bloomsbury Academic list. We now publish around 1,100 books each year, with a particularly large presence in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Visual Arts.

Our acquisitions represent numerous brands, many with revered histories. Over time, we believe a unified Bloomsbury brand will result in greater clarity for our customers and bring benefits to our authors, which is why we have taken the decision to rebrand Continuum, Berg and Bristol Classical Press titles to Bloomsbury.

Where imprint histories are long and very firmly established, we will continue to publish under the original brand, but clearly within the Bloomsbury umbrella. This is the case for Methuen Drama, Arden Shakespeare and T&T Clark.

The changes are as follows:

From 1st September 2012:

- All new Continuum titles will be published under the Bloomsbury name (under the imprint Bloomsbury Academic)
- All new T&T Clark titles will be cobranded with Bloomsbury (under the imprint Bloomsbury T&T Clark)

From 1st January 2013:

- All new Berg titles, including journals, will be published under the Bloomsbury name (under the imprint Bloomsbury Academic)
- All new Bristol Classical Press titles will be published under the Bloomsbury name (under the imprint Bloomsbury Academic)
- The Arden Shakespeare will be co-branded with Bloomsbury (under the imprint Bloomsbury Arden)
- Methuen Drama will be co-branded with Bloomsbury (under the imprint Bloomsbury Methuen Drama)

Recent acquisitions Fairchild and AVA will remain as they are for the foreseeable future.

To support these changes, this month we will be launching the academic area of the new Bloomsbury website www.bloomsbury.com. The site will bring together books, ebooks and digital product information currently hosted on several separate websites. It features enhanced academic functionality such as online previews, digital inspection copies, textbook companion sites and online resources. Journals will join the company site in early 2013.

Notes for Editors:

Bloomsbury Publishing Plc – Bloomsbury Publishing is a leading independent publishing house with companies in London, New York, Delhi and Sydney. Its founder and Chief Executive is Nigel Newton. Its four divisions are: Bloomsbury Academic & Professional Publishing; Bloomsbury Information; Bloomsbury Adult Publishing; and Bloomsbury Children's Publishing & Educational.

Bloomsbury Academic & Professional specialises in the humanities, social sciences, law and tax. In 2012, it published online the digitized edition of the Winston Churchill Archive, and in 2013 will publish Drama Online (with Faber). The division includes Continuum, Berg Publishers, Methuen Drama, Arden Shakespeare, Bristol Classical Press, AVA, Fairchild and Bloomsbury Professional. Jonathan Glasspool is Managing Director.

Continuum International Publishing Group Limited was acquired by Bloomsbury in 2011 – an international academic & professional publisher, comprising prestigious imprints that go back over 170 years. It was awarded Independent Publishers’ Group Publisher of the Year 2011 and Academic & Professional Publisher of the Year in 2011. A particular strength is in theology and biblical studies, under the T&T Clark imprint. T&T Clark’s tradition of publishing works by world-class Continuums in both Europe and North America stretches back to 1821; the imprint represents one of the most extensive collections of religious academic books in the world with more than 2,200 books in print. Continuum is the UK market leader in Continental Philosophy, Education, and Theology & Biblical Studies and additionally publishes in the following areas: Classical Studies, Film, History, Linguistics, Media Studies, Music and Politics.

Berg Publishers was acquired by Bloomsbury in 2008. Established in 1982, Berg has an international reputation in fashion, design and social anthropology and a rapidly growing journals programme with a focus on culture and the visual arts. In 2010 Berg launched the Berg Fashion Library, winner of the Dartmouth medal.

Bristol Classical Press comprises all titles that were previously published by Duckworth Academic, following its acquisition by Bloomsbury in 2010. Duckworth Academic's list was long known for its strong publishing centered on books about the ancient world, and Bristol Classical Press has continued this tradition.
