They were looking to integrate more with Twitter, and were curious to see how this small change might affect their follower count. At the time, @urbandictionary was seeing an average follower growth rate of 87 follows a day in the weeks leading up to their implementation of the Follow Button.

It takes good technical integrations with the Twitter API to create awesome applications, and it also takes capital to scale and sustain those applications. Over the past six months, we've discussed areas where we see opportunities for developers: Analytics, Curation, Content, Publishing, and Enterprise. On July 6 the White House held its first Twitter Town Hall, when United States President Barack Obama answered Twitter users’ questions about the American economy. Using the hashtag #AskObama, people all over the world sent more than 160,000 questions and comments for the President to answer live during the event.
