World Cup: Pick your greatest XI

This is your chance to choose your all-time World Cup XI - and share it with friends.

As the 2014 tournament begins in Brazil, we have come up with a list of 110 of the greatest players in the history of the Fifa World Cup.

On Monday 9 June a BBC Radio 5 live panel of commentators Darren Fletcher and John Motson, former England full-back Jimmy Armfield, French football journalist Julien Laurens and the BBC's South American football correspondent Tim Vickery picked their own all-time XI.

The lucky men to make the cut were Dino Zoff; Cafu, Bobby Moore, Franz Beckenbauer, Paolo Maldini; Garrincha, Zico, Lothar Matthaus, Zinedine Zidane; Pele, Diego Maradona.

The list of tournaments for each player includes tournaments where they were in the national squad but did not play.

Team profiles are constructed from stats on Fifa.com. Attacking strength looks at the number of goals scored by your team and the average number of goals scored by teams your midfielders and forwards played in. Defensive strength looks at clean sheets for your defence and goalkeeper and the average number of goals conceded by teams they played in. Discipline looks at total red and yellow cards. Experience looks at how many tournaments your players appeared at and how many appearances they made. It's just a bit of fun. We don't expect to see international managers using these methods in their team selections.
