The NBA’s Read to Achieve Program is the most extensive educational outreach initiative in professional sports. The Grizzlies Read to Achieve program is an incentive-driven initiative that motivates students to develop a life-long love for reading and promotes the value of literacy. Reaching over 21,000 Mid-South students, the program, presented by International Paper, includes the Grizzlies Read to Achieve Tip-Off, a six-week Reading Challenge, an assembly program and Grizzlies front office staff All-Star Reading Team.

Poetry Slam
The Memphis Grizzlies Poetry Slam Program is an annual city-wide spoken-word contest for 9th-11th grade students that encourages personal expression through real life experiences, prose and effective public speaking. The Memphis Grizzlies Poetry Slam is open to all 9th – 11th grade students at participating schools between October and November. The program continues with “Write On, Speak Out!”, a Grizzlies Foundation funded poetry mentorship program through Hattiloo Theatre. Local spoken word artists help students develop their expressing writing, creative and performance skills while placing an emphasis on social learning.
