The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) is responsible for research policy development and furthering the profile of research at The University of Tasmania_.

The DVC(R) has oversight for all aspects of the Research Portfolio. Staff in the ODVC(R) have responsibility for:

• Research strategy and priorities
• Research policy
• Research data reporting and analysis
• Facilitating effective lines of communication for all units that report to DVC(R)
• Oversight of the budgets and financial outlooks for all units that report to the DVC(R)
• Oversight of communication strategies of the Research Portfolio and major research events in consultation with other units
• Oversight of research data analysis and reporting, working closely with the OPVC(R&I)
• Other strategic initiatives as required by the University
• Management of the strategic research funds
