Revisions to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
We’ve revised our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, effective 27 Jan 2016, to provide clarifications and make them easier to navigate. Below is a summary of changes, and we encourage you to read the updated documents in full. By using our services on or after 27 Jan 2016, you agree to the revisions.
Terms of Service
We’ve clarified that the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Twitter Rules and incorporated policies comprise the Twitter User Agreement. We’ve improved our Terms of Service by including a table of contents so you can more easily navigate the terms and by enabling you to download a PDF of the Twitter User Agreement.
Privacy Policy
We’ve clarified what you can do with various settings. For example, you may adjust the visibility settings for your date of birth if you’ve chosen to add that information to your profile. You may also use your account settings to change the language and time zone associated with your account. The Privacy Policy also notes how Twitter honors the Do Not Track browser option.
The revised Privacy Policy clarifies how certain features enhance your Twitter experience. For example, syncing your address book with our Services helps connect you and other users as well as surface more relevant Tweets or accounts to follow. Links shared on our Services, including Tweets and Direct Messages, are processed and shortened to a http://t.co link.
Given the global nature of the Twitter platform and our operations, we clarify that you allow us to use, transfer and store your information in the United States, Ireland, and other countries where we operate. We note that the privacy and data protection laws in some of these countries may vary from the laws in the country where you live. As provided in the Terms of Service and Twitter Rules, the Privacy Policy now also states that you control and are responsible for the posting of your Tweets and other content you submit through the Services.
We’ve removed certain language in the Privacy Policy that’s no longer applicable. References to the collection, use and sharing of certain payment information to implement card-linked services have been deleted. We’ve also removed the EU Safe Harbor Framework section.
