Sharing a Tweet

Sharing a Tweet privately, either with people you follow or someone in your contacts, is easy. You can send the Tweet via Direct Message with several options for choosing how the Tweet is delivered, or you can share the Tweet through your device’s sharing options.

To share a Tweet via Direct Message:

If you choose to share a Tweet via Direct Message, you can choose to send the Tweet via Direct Message, or to any of your contacts via SMS text message or email.

 

From a Twitter for iOS or Android app:

  1. Tap the Tweet to open the Tweet detail.
  2. Tap the ••• More icon (iOS) or the share icon  (Android).
  3. From the menu that pops up, select Send via Direct Message.
  4. You may see a prompt that says Share Tweets with your contacts who aren’t on Twitter. When you tap Access contacts, the contacts on your device may be suggested as recipients and you will be able to send Tweets to your contacts via email or SMS text message.
  5. Enter a name of the user(s) you wish to send a message to. Twitter may suggest recipients, including from your device contacts if you allow Twitter to access them. When you choose to share a Tweet with one of your contacts, your default email or SMS message app will open.
  6. You have the option to Add a comment.
  7. Send message.
  8. Pro tip: You can also long-press the Tweet from within your timeline to access the menu to Send via Direct Message.

 

From the web:

  1. Click the ••• More icon located within the Tweet.
  2. From the menu that pops up, select Share via Direct Message.
  3. Enter a name of the user you wish to send a message to.
  4. You have the option to Add a comment.
  5. Send message.

To share a Tweet via email:

 

From a Twitter for iOS app:

  1. Tap the Tweet to open the Tweet detail.
  2. Tap the ••• More icon located at the bottom of the Tweet.
  3. From the menu that pops up, select Mail Tweet.
  4. Enter the email address(es) of the people you wish to email the Tweet to.
  5. You can choose to add a comment to the email.
  6. Tap Send.
  7. Pro tip: You can also long-press the Tweet from within your timeline to access the menu to Mail Tweet.

 

From a Twitter for Android app:

  1. Tap the Tweet to open the Tweet detail.
  2. Tap the share icon 
  3. From the menu that pops up, select the email application you’d like to use to send the Tweet.
  4. Enter the email address(es) of the people you wish to email the Tweet to.
  5. You can choose to add a comment to the email.
  6. Tap Send.
  7. Pro tip: You can also long-press the Tweet from within your timeline to access the share menu.

 

From the web:

  1. Click the ••• More icon located within the Tweet.
  2. From the menu that pops up, select Copy link to Tweet.
  3. A prompt will show with the URL of the Tweet.
  4. Copy the URL. Once you have opened your email client, you can paste the URL into the email you compose.
