  1. 'Negative and pathetic'

    Bairstow

You know England are at a World Cup, in any sport, when the players start falling out with the media.

Jonny Bairstow's claim that people are waiting for England to fail at the World Cup is "negative and pathetic", says former England captain Michael Vaughan.

England opener Bairstow was responding to criticism from Vaughan and fellow ex-skipper Kevin Pietersen after the hosts suffered back-to-back losses against Sri Lanka and Australia.

"Never has an England team had so much support, but it's you and your team that has disappointed Jonny," Vaughan said in an Instagram post.

  2. Who's fit?

England have badly missed opener Jason Roy since he twanged a hamstring while fast bowler Jofra Archer was also a doubt.

I've seen Archer bowling in the nets this morning with a huge smile on his face. We'll know for sure at the toss but I reckon he'll be right.

  3. What do England need?

Video caption: Highlights: Pakistan beat Afghanistan in Cricket World Cup thriller at Headingley

It's advantage Pakistan in the race for the World Cup semi-finals after their nerve-shredding victory over Afghanistan at Headingley.

Victory for Sarfaraz Ahmed's side means England are likely to need to beat both India and New Zealand on Wednesday to reach the last four.

Pakistan are now one point clear of England, who can regain fourth place if they beat India - the only unbeaten side left in the competition - at Edgbaston.

Lose and it will come down to their final match against New Zealand at Chester-le-Street on Wednesday - and what happens in the remaining fixtures involving Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

If India beat England but lose to Bangladesh on Tuesday, Eoin Morgan's men could then be eliminated whatever happens against New Zealand the following day.

That is because Pakistan's final match is against Bangladesh at Lord's in what may become a straight knockout for fourth place.
