Yukon NDP MLA killed in crash

Yukon NDP MLA Steve Cardiff has been killed in a car crash, CBC News has confirmed.

The accident happened one kilometre north of Lewes Lake on the South Klondike Highway.

Few details were provided about the collision but the RCMP said a tractor-trailer collided with a small vehicle.

Cardiff was first elected to the legislative assembly in 2002 and re-elected in 2006.

He had been a Yukon resident since 1976 and worked for 20 years as a certified sheet metal jouneyman before entering politics.
