J.D. McCrary, who will star as young Simba in Disney’s upcoming remake of The Lion King, has signed with ICM Partners, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.
The 10-year-old actor and singer actually already has worked with Donald Glover, who will be starring as the adult version of the title character, having belted guest vocals on the Childish Gambino track “Terrified” last year. In May, McCrary was featured on NBC’s Little Big Shots singing a cover of The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” And Dr. Dre and Jason Derulo have subsequently invited him to record with them.
McCrary will be seen next year on Tyler Perry’s House of Paynes spinoff The Paynes on OWN, as well as on Dr. Dre’s Apple musical drama Vital Signs. His previous credits include Disney Channel’s K.C. Undercover and Starz’s Blunt Talk.
McCrary continues to be managed by Sherry Kayne at The Green Room.
