World Cup 2014: James Rodriguez slams referee Carlos Velasco Carballo as Colombia bow out to Brazil
The clash against the hosts in Fortaleza had a tournament high 54 fouls but only four bookings with Los Cafeteros number 10 fouled six times
James Rodriguez has slammed the referee following Colombia's World Cup exit.
Los Cafeteros fell to hosts Brazil on a frenetic night in Fortaleza, David Luiz's sublime free-kick ultimately proving the winner.
The performance of referee Carlos Velasco Carballo came in for some criticism throughout after failing to clamp down on a number of physical challenges from both sides as well as disallowing a Colombian goal late on.
And Golden Boot front runner Rodriguez feels the referee's performance played a crucial role in deciding his side's fate.
"Carlos Velasco Carballo didn't help a lot," he said after the match.
"I think the referee influenced the game a lot, but that is how it is and we need to look forward."
Powered by the irrepressible Rodriguez the Colombians came good on their pre-tournament dark horses tag.
"We are sad because we wanted to go further in the World Cup," he added. "That is what hurts most, but Brazil are a good team.
"I want to thank the people of Colombia because they have always been there for us and had faith."
