Lions re-sign Cason, release Middleton

Detroit Lions' Aveion Cason, top, is tackled by Kansas City Chiefs' Jon McGraw during last year's game in Detroit.

To bolster their kickoff return game, the Lions re-signed running back Aveion Cason and released receiver Brandon Middleton. The Lions had waived Cason earlier in the year and reached an injury settlement with him. This week was the first time Cason was eligible to return to the Lions' roster.

Taking Middleton's spot at receiver is John Standeford, who was also re-signed to the team. It's believed that Standeford signed a two-year deal. To room for Standeford, the Lions released fullback Darian Barnes.
