STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Today's historic page is from September 4, 1928. Harold "Pickles" Sorge had broken the Tysen Manor Golf Course record with a score of 69. Tysen Manor was located in New Dorp and the popular Hylan Blvd. restaurant known as "Tavern on the Green" was once its clubhouse. The restaurant was destroyed by fire in 1977.
