Kotturpuram now has a new landmark.
The office of the Honorary Consulate of Czech Republic was opened in the city on Wednesday with Ar. Rm. Arun as its Honorary Consul.
At a reception held in the Madras Club, Minister for Culture K. Pandiarajan spoke about similarities between the Czech Republic and Tamil Nadu, including in the area of archaeology.
Milan Hovorka, Ambassador from Czech embassy, said Mr. Arun was selected as the Honorary Consul for various reasons including his contribution towards strengthening and deepening bilateral relations between the two nations.
“By opening the Honorary Consulate, we are writing a new chapter in the history of the relationship between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on one side and Czech Republic on the other,” he said. He added that the Consulate would be playing a decisive role in promoting bilateral trade and investment relations between Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and the Czech Republic.
Mr. Arun said he was humbled by the honour. He outlined the connection between the two countries through a presentation.
In his address, Gopalakrishna Gandhi, former Governor of West Bengal, congratulated Mr. Arun. “Legal, political, consular, trade relations are very often in the hands of the experts. But the Honorary Consul is a representative of what is called the umbilical connection between the cultural and civilisational lives of countries in its human aspect,” he said.
