Removing non-free files instead of tagging them with di-disputed non-free use rationale
[edit]Hi Explicit. I get what you're saying regarding this and this; in the latter case, though, the file was only being used in the election article when I tagged it (someone added it to the biography article later) and removing the file would've been a de-facto deletion request per F5. I wasn't sure whether that would be OK.
Anyway, I've found a similar situation in List of Alexandrov Ensemble soloists while looking at some recently uploaded files. It seems that all the non-free files used in the article were just uploaded within the past few days; they all also seem to fail WP:NFLISTS. Two of the entries do seem to have have stand-alone articles about their subjects where other non-free images are being used; so, removing these two files isn't much of a hassle. The other ones (there's more than 50), though, don't have stand-alone articles where that could be moved; so, removing means they could end up being deleted per F5. These all appear to have been recently uploaded and added by the same account, a new account that's about a week old. Not sure what to do here; so, if you've got any ideas, please advise. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:02, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Hi, first, {{di-disputed non-free use rationale}} is only intended for deletion of files, so it should not be used only for disputing the use of files from certain pages.
- Regarding non-free files used in list articles, you can boldly just remove them citing NFLISTS. A lot of times, they simply will end up being deleted as F5. If your actions are reverted, you can always send the files to WP:FFD for removal or deletion. The new user may need a message explaining NFCC policy as well. ✗plicit 06:56, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. Just for reference, the wording in the documentation for Template:Di-disputed non-free use rationale and the template itself seems to imply that it can be used in cases where a particular use of a file is being disputed (i.e. removal from certain articles is only being requested):
This template notes that a non-free use rationale that is disputed. The image tagged can be deleted or removed from some uses 7 days after tagging unless resolved.
It seems to have been worded that way for quite some time, but perhaps it should be changed if it now should only be used when requesting speedy deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:05, 25 April 2025 (UTC) - I've started a discussion about the list article at WP:MCQ#List of Alexandrov Ensemble soloists to see whether any of the files in question might possibly have already entered into the public domain and , thus, just need to be relicensed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:24, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

Pages made by socket puppet
[edit]Pages Murder of John Butkovich and Murder of Timothy McCoy were made by socket puppet and are still there can you delete them? DarkHorseMayhem (talk) 22:09, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- The Murder of Timothy McCoy article is well-written and extensively referenced. In my humble opinion that article should not be deleted.--Kieronoldham (talk) 22:34, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- Then just merge his page and Gacys or add some content from it to Gacy page cause Gacy is note worthy here after all DarkHorseMayhem (talk) 22:36, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- The Gacy article is already exhaustive. It would add undue weight to the section in question. It was his first murder so youse could argue it is noteworthy as an independent article. Kieronoldham (talk) 22:43, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- Well Butkowich one page seems less notable and worse made but yeah thing is they are both made by sock which is bad , o it could be since Timothy is Gacy first kill just taking some content and reference and just expending Timothy section on Gacy page and just straight up deleting Butkovich one DarkHorseMayhem (talk) 22:46, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- @DarkHorseMayhem: Neither of these articles qualify for G5 due to the substantial contributions made by other users. ✗plicit 06:56, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Kieronoldham can you nominate John Butkovich page for deletion? DarkHorseMayhem (talk) 13:44, 25 April 2025 (UTC)

I am sure there was stern scrutiny. Perhaps it should be up for deletion then.--Kieronoldham (talk) 22:06, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- I didn"t find any expect there was brief merge req that everyone ignored. Page its still not notable enough unlike Timothy one could be argued. DarkHorseMayhem (talk) 22:23, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Kieronoldham why you don't want to nominate Butkovich page for deletion? DarkHorseMayhem (talk) 23:27, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
- I have over 600 pages on my watchlist - at least 100 of which I have worked on extensively and pay a particular focus to and as time goes by this particular group of focus expands in addition to almost always having one case to work on ongoingly. (I always like to labour/labor through my watchlist daily before addressing others' requests.) Just because I haven't done so yet doesn't mean I won't. Act., you could do so yourself too?--Kieronoldham (talk) 23:38, 26 April 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hey, could you tell me if I was the one that tagged Module:Sandbox/Gonnym/sometest8? I don't remember recently tagging it for deletion, but maybe it was in some backlog. Gonnym (talk) 08:43, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

Moundball
[edit]Hi @Explicit, I saw that you recently deleted the Moundball page. Is it possible to reverse this? The stated concern was that there was no significant coverage in independent reliable sources to establish notability. I understand that the internet likely does not have many independent sources on Moundball. But as a baseball fan myself, I can assure you that Moundball is in fact a game that exists, and I have played it myself multiple times. It is something that almost any attendee of a baseball game is at least aware of. If you want an independent source for the existence of the game, here is a source from the official US Major League Baseball website. SCOTUS Operandi (talk) 09:26, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
