The Hold Steady on yhdysvaltalainen indie rock -yhtye Brooklynistä, New Yorkista, joka perustettiin vuonna 2004. Yhtyeen jäsenet ovat: Craig Finn (laulu, kitara), Tad Kubler (soolokitara), Galen Polivka (basso), Bobby Drake (rummut) ja Steve Selvidge (kitara).[1] Se on tunnettu "tiheän tarinankerronan sanoituksista,"[2] ja klassisen rockin vaikutteista. Yhtyeen sanoitukset pyörivät päihderiippuvuuden, uskonnon ja lunastuksen ympärillä ja tapahtumapaikkana on yleensä Minneapolisin kaupunki.
The Hold Steady julkaisi debyyttialbumin Almost Killed Me vuonna 2004 ja tuli tunnetuksi kolmannen studioalbuminsa Boys and Girls in American julkaisun jälkeen vuonna 2006. Vuonna 2010 kosketinsoittaja ja multi-instrumentalisti Franz Nicolay jätti yhtyeen ennen viidettä studioalbumia (Heaven Is Whenever (2010)). Myöhemmin yhtyeestä tuli viisihenkinen, kun Lucero-yhtyeen kitaristi Steve Selvidge liittyi kokoonpanoon.[1]
