Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby sevens rover Joji Nasova aims to lift the series title with his side next year.

The Toge, Ba native was part of the side that lifted a HSBC SVNS title after 25 tournaments.

He said the win was sweet and it was possible because they worked together as a team.

The 26-year-old’s hard-hitting tackles saw him debut at the Hong Kong sevens four months after his first national duty at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

Three months later he was named by coach Osea Kolinisau’s to be part of the silver medal winners at the Paris Olympic Games in July.

“I can only thank God for all He has provided for me,” he said.

“Next year we aim to win the series and we can only do that if we learn and work collectively.

“I’m grateful for all I have achieved as coach Kolisau said we can achieve anything if we’re disciplined on and off the field.”

Reflecting on his rapid rise in sevens, the former Dominion Brothers said he knew rugby was going to help him support his family.

“I did not complete high school or have a job so I gave my all to rugby and it has brought me this far. I’m able to support my family,” Nasova said.

Nasova’s brother Iliavi Masori was also part of the national sevens extended squad; they played together at the Honiara Pacific Games.

The men’s sevens team are on a two-week break before they march into camp in January to prepare for Perth 7s on January 24-26.
