McDonald’s Extends Sponsorship

McDonald’s has the people’s interest at heart in the creation of pathways for Fijians to improve in sports.
This was the gist of McDonald’s Fiji managing director Marc McElrath’s interview with SUNsports after the conclusion of the Coral Coast Sevens tournament.
“We know there’s so much talent in this country and this sponsorship will go again for another three years,” he said.
“We will be bigger and better. What it creates an opportunity for a lot of people who don’t live in the areas in the city that can show their sporting potential.”
McElrath said, as a family business their sponsorship creates an opportunity for local players to showcase their talent and play against international players.
“We are creating the opportunity to show them off to the international stage,” he said.
“We are involved with soccer and rugby. Most of our involvement in sports is in the junior levels so we’re pushing really hard on that.”
McElrath said it was critical for their organisation to give back to families in Fiji.
“This is one way that we can give opportunity for young kids in rugby and soccer to come forward and showcase their skills regardless of their location,” he said.
“I’d like to thank the organisers of the Coral Coast sevens tournament as it takes a while to organise a tournament like this. We’re committed to this for the long term particularly with the village teams coming in as we want to make sure there’s equal opportunity for them to show their skills to the rest of the world.”
