"Swiss Army Knife for SQL" Posted 2025-06-09
Pros: DBVisualizer offers an incredibly unified environment that streamlines my workflow. With run, compile, and development tools all integrated into one application, it eliminates the need to juggle between multiple platforms. The rich ecosystem of extensions is another major plus, allowing me to extend functionality and support a wide range of tasks specific to my development needs. It’s a one-stop shop that’s both powerful and flexible.
Cons: The interface isn’t the most intuitive, especially for newer users or those unfamiliar with similar tools. It takes a little time and effort to get used to the layout and workflows. Additionally, deploying packages isn’t always straightforward and can require a bit of tinkering to get things just right.
Overall: Despite the minor learning curve, DBVisualizer has become my preferred SQL development environment. It’s more capable and versatile than tools like SQL Developer and TOAD, making it a top choice for serious developers who value having everything in one place. Once configured, it’s a reliable and efficient tool I use daily.

"Easy to use across multiple database platforms" Posted 2025-06-05
Pros: Easy to install and configure; use same interface across multiple database platforms. Quick and dirty use of SQL while still being able to do things like browse tables.
Cons: Rough upgrade process, but the most recent major release fixed this with a more automatic process.
Overall: We needed a tool to just be able to get data out of RDMS'. This fit the bill. It uses a JDBC common denominator to give the same experience no matter your environment - - I personally use it currently with 6 different RDMS'. (SQL Server, Sybase, Informix, PostGres, MySQL, Oracle)

Pros: Super clean design, with ability to connect to multiple databases at the same time, and it runs on Mac!

"DbVis, a must have and ever improving tool" Posted 2025-03-22
Pros: I love table column sorting/filters, the new workspace feature, db specific object handling like Oracle's sequences.
Cons: When I have a lot of tables open, the popup on the right side gets a bit unwieldy. It would be nice to have that as a drag and drop list since dragging the tabs of open tables is difficult when you have 30 tables open and the title is so long (yes, I've customized those).
Overall: Overall, a really good tool to in the toolbox. I use it heavily; seldom a day that I don't. Support team is quite responsive, too, if I have problems or suggestions.

"Using DbVisualizer for 15 years" Posted 2024-12-05
Pros: Over the years I've had to reach out to support about 5 times. Support has always been very prompt and fulsome in their responses and have helped me get to a resolution quickly.
Cons: Every now and then the app seizes up and I've no choice but to force quit it. Unsure if this is a JDK issue.
Overall: I've been using DbVisualizer since 2008 at work first. When work switched to a different DB IDE which was much inferior, I opted to pay for DbV myself as it makes life much easier for me for my work and personal development.
