Welcome to the Clovis-Portales Region

The Clovis-Portales Region is home to Cannon Air Force Base (AFB), located in the high plains of Eastern New Mexico. The region is an outstanding community with a heart as big as the New Mexico skies. Eastern New Mexico prides itself in actively supporting the military in every way possible. Recently this region undertook a successful campaign to save Cannon Air Force Base from closure. The name of this campaign was Operation Keep Cannon, where community members throughout the region participated in grass-root activities and rallies. The efforts of the community ensured that Cannon AFB would remain a home for active duty personnel and their families. Since the announcement of a Special Operations mission, signs and banners resonate throughout the area welcoming Special Ops “New Mexico style.”
