What's so funny about Amy Anderson?
Her name, for one thing.
The comedian was born in South Korea, but was adopted at 5 months by an Excelsior couple of Swedish heritage. "It's kind of like being raised by wolves, except for they're white people," she jokes. Her atypical upbringing is a frequent theme in Anderson's comedy as she works to turn her name into more than a punch line.
This weekend, she'll perform at Illusion Theater in Minneapolis - the first time she will headline her stand-up comedy show in the Twin Cities since moving to Los Angeles five years ago. She has appeared on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend" and on ABC's "The Tom Joyner Show," came in fourth place in "California's Funniest Female Competition" and was a finalist on NBC/Laugh Factory's "Latino and Asian-American Open Mic Competition."
Anderson, 33, got her comedic start here as a child who used humor as a defense mechanism. …
