Inter Milan blocks Man. Utd’s Icardi bid

Manchester United’s January bid for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi was rejected by the Italian club, reports in Italy have claimed.

United were reported to have tabled a £23m bid for the striker last month, only to be rejected by the Inter Milan owner, Erick Thohir, according to a report by Corriere dello Sport. The former Italian champions had also rejected a similar bid from German club, Wolfsburg.

Speaking last week, Inter vice-president and former defender insisted the player would not be leaving as he was happy at the San Siro.

“There is no Icardi problem; we have great faith in him. The decision to make him captain was shared by everyone,” he said.

The English giants are expected to return with another bid for the 22-year old Argentinean striker but will face stiff challenge from Paris Saint Germain, who are also understood to be interested in the player.
