The A12 in Essex is closed in both directions on Monday morning (May 12) between Junction 12 (Brentwood) and Junction 11 (M25) due to an ongoing medical emergency. Essex Police are in attendance and National Highways is warning drivers delays are likely on approach to the closure and diversion routes.
According to online traffic source Inrix, the incident happened at about 8.10am on the southbound carriageway with the northbound carriageway also stopped since 8:30am to allow an air ambulance to land. Elsewhere on the M25 on Monday morning, one lane is blocked clockwise near Cobham Services, a couple of mile before Junction 10 for Wisley, due to a broken down vehicle.

Drivers are advised to follow the below diversion route, there is no symbol.
Southbound
- Exit the A12 southbound at J12 and at the roundabout take the first exit onto the A1023 towards Brentwood
- Travel along the A1023 for approximately 4 miles, passing through Brentwood, to reach J28 of the M25.
- To re-join the A12 southbound take the second exit at the roundabout.
Northbound
- Exit the A12 northbound at J11 and at the roundabout take the third exit onto the A1023 towards Brentwood
- Travel along the A1023 for approximately 4 miles
- Rejoin the A12 at J12 (Marylands)
A National Highways spokesperson said: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey. "Our 24/7 contact centre team is also available to provide up to the minute information on 0300 123 5000."
