There are major issues on the London Underground network and Elizabeth line due to power failures. The Bakerloo line, Waterloo and City line plus the Overground's Suffragette line and Weaver line are entirely suspended on Monday afternoon (May 12).

Sections of the Northern line and the Jubilee line are currently partially suspended, with the Elizabeth line also hit.

It is not known if the power outages are linked. The Elizabeth line is part suspended with no service between Paddington and Abbey Wood due to a power supply failure. Transport for London (TfL) states there is a 'good service' on the rest of the line.

On the Northern line there is no service between Morden and Stockwell and also between Euston and Kennington via Charing Cross while TfL deals with power supply failure. London Underground tickets will be accepted on London Buses via any reasonable route.

On the Jubilee line there are severe delays on the entire line and there is no service between London Bridge and Finchley Road due to a power failure. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses.

There are also issues with the whole of the Bakerloo Line hit with a power failure

TfL apologises for power outages

Claire Mann, TfL’s Chief Operating Officer, said:

“Due to a brief interruption of the power supply to our network, several lines lost power for a short period earlier this afternoon. We apologise to customers whose journeys will have been affected. We are working to get the whole network up and running again as quickly as possible.”

TfL said they are currently working with the National Grid to determine the cause of the outage.

What has The National Grid said?

The National Grid tweeted: "We apologise for any inconvenience following a fault on our transmission network in central London this afternoon.

"The fault was resolved within seconds and did not interrupt supply from our network, but a consequent voltage dip may have briefly affected power supplies on the low voltage distribution network in the area.

"We once again apologise for any inconvenience and ongoing travel disruption."

IFS cable car closed

The cable car across the Thames has been closed as storm clouds roll in over London.

We could be in the midst of a thunderstorm at any moment, a stark break from the sunny weather.

As such, TfL has chosen to close the cable car that links the Greenwich Peninsula and the Docklands.

TfL say outage due to National Grid issue which started in South West London

A TfL spokesperson has said that the power outage was due to a "National Grid issue" after there was an outage in south-west London for “a matter of minutes” and “everything shut down”, the PA news agency reported.

The spokesperson continued: "When the power goes out the trains will have stopped, obviously, there’s emergency power on trains and stations so everything wouldn’t have gone completely black, if you were on there, but the trains would have stopped and we would have cleared some stations because there’s no electricity it might not necessarily be safe for them to be open … some people would have probably been stuck in a tunnel for a little bit of time.”

TfL is in the process of “getting things back up and running again”.

Railside fire near Tottenham Hale causes more disruption

A railside fire has blocked all lines from London Liverpool Street to Stratford and Tottenham Hale, compounding the disruption caused by the power outage on the TfL network. Trains may be cancelled or severely delayed by up to 50 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected to last until 5pm.

The following routes have been affected:

Sorry for the inconvenience. A timeout occurred. The origin web server timed out responding to this request." This is likely to the overload of delayed passengers checking what is going on with cancelled trains.
