On this page, you can find a variety of history databases from around the world, which can be accessed from the library building, remotely, or freely.

In addition to the databases listed on this page, historical materials can also be found in other databases that require a subscription. Further information can be obtained from the library staff.

Archives Portal Europe This portal offers access to a wide range of historical archives scattered across Europe. The search allows for locating entire collections as well as individual archival items. Multiple languages Open access
AWOL - The Ancient World Online This database provides access to a wide range of information sources on the ancient world, including primary and secondary sources, links to additional databases, and bibliographic records. Multiple languages Open access
Brill A broad collection of journals on various subjects, with an emphasis on the humanities and history. This is a subscription-based database with partial access available from within the Library. Multiple languages Access from within the Library building only
Cambridge Online Journals Cambridge Journals Online package in the humanities and social sciences. It includes access to several journals and books related to history. Partial access is available from within the Library. English Access from within the Library building only
Cornell University Digital Collections A database from Cornell University that brings together dozens of historical collections, with a particular emphasis on ephemera collections. English Open access
Digital Handbook for Research on Soviet History This database, from Harvard University, provides open access to various sub-collections focused on Soviet history, in both Russian and English. English, Russian Open access
Eighteenth Century Collection Online A collection of various types of documents from the English-speaking world in the 18th century. Part of the GALE databases. Access is available from within the Library. English Access from within the Library building only
Feminae: Medieval Women and Gender Index This index includes articles, reviews, and translations related to the history of women in the Middle Ages. English Open access
Historical Social Conflict Database A database that includes collections focused on the history of social conflicts in Europe, from the medieval period to the modern era. French, English Open access
Internet History Sourcebook Project This database contains historical texts that are in the public domain, as well as reference books covering various fields of history. Multiple languages Open access
Les Enluminures A database that includes approximately 120,000 manuscripts from the medieval period to the Renaissance, available with open access. French, English Open access
Monastic Manuscript Project This project provides access to manuscripts and texts written by various monastic orders or related to them, during the early medieval period. English, Latin Open access
Old Maps Online This database offers access to a wide range of historical maps. The search can be filtered by geographic area, time period, and more. The site also includes an interactive map that updates according to the selected period. English Open access
Palestine: The British Mandate, 1917–1948 This collection includes a variety of primary sources from the British Mandate period in Palestine. It is part of Brill's subscription-based databases. The Avalon Project A project that includes collections of historical documents from various periods throughout written history – from ancient times to modern documents. Multiple languages Open access
The Economy and War in the Third Reich, 1933-1944 An official statistical database providing rare and detailed data on the economic situation in Germany during the Third Reich, up to and during World War II. Part of Gale's databases. Access is available from within the Library. English, German Remote access
The European Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies (EBSEES) This database includes thousands of bibliographic records related to Slavic studies and the history of Eastern Europe. Multiple languages Open access
The Medieval Bestiary A collection of medieval manuscripts that include illustrations or information about animals, as well as an encyclopedia and references in this field. English Open access
