Today's Market

US futures were showing signs of some profit-taking in the early morning hours following yesterday’s sharp gains. Not entirely unexpected. A tame CPI print sent futures higher and equities continued to move up throughout the morning. The S&P gapped above its 200-day moving average yesterday and continued the climb. On May 2 the S&P 500 erased all of its post-Liberation Day (April 2) losses. Today, the S&P turned positive for the year after being down 15% at its closing low. Don’t call it a comeback…Treasury yields are flat to slightly higher. The 2-year fell a few bps following the CPI print but has moved higher throughout the day and is now about flat with yesterday. Probabilities for a June pause by the Fed are at 90%, up from 70% a week ago. There was a 30% probability a week ago of 4 rate cuts this year, but that has fallen to less than 10% currently. The US Dollar Index is down about 1% after yesterday’s move higher. Brent crude is up 3%, looking to make it four straight days of gains and right below the 50-day average. Gold is up about 1 % as is Bitcoin.
