We have added a new feature to College Basketball Reference: a comprehensive list of every game-winning buzzer-beater in women's NCAA Tournament history. Details on methodology can be found here. Entering the 2025 Final Four, there have been 47 qualifying shots in the history of the women's tournament, with the last one being Ohio State's Jacy Sheldon in a 2023 Round of 32 game against North Carolina. We are thrilled to announce that College Basketball Reference has significantly expanded its coverage of the Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament and now has box scores with player statistics for every game in the history of the event since it began in 1982. We believe this to be the most comprehensive database of women's March Madness information ever compiled for public consumption. Before this update, we had box scores for all of the games from 2003 to present, so this update represents a near doubling of our Women's NCAA Tournament data. Read the rest of this entry

A couple of months back we made a huge update to our Women's College Basketball data, extending coverage of D-I all the way back to the first year of NCAA play in 1981-82. The data generally did not include minutes played, games started, offensive/defensive rebounds, turnovers or personal fouls. Additionally, coverage of blocks and steals was very limited from 1981-82 through 1986-87. Read the rest of this entry

The men's statistical data on College Basketball Reference is generally limited to the era since 1947-48. That was the first season in which schools were required to send final stat sheets to NCAA headquarters so that official national leaderboards could be compiled. Before this, unofficial leaderboards were compiled in yearly record books, but the scans with stats for all teams are generally not as easy to locate. Nonetheless, many of the most important players in the history of college basketball played before 1947-48, so we have made an effort to cover as many of these players as possible. We are proud to announce that we have added data for over 2,500 player seasons (covering over 1,500 players) from 1911-12 through 1947-48 to our database. Read the rest of this entry

The school schedules for men's basketball teams have recently been updated to include games vs. non-major opponents back through the 1992-93 season on College Basketball Reference. Previously, the schedules were only complete with all non-major opponents back until 1994-95. This means that the La Salle fan writing this can now look back and (not) laugh when reviewing the Explorers' 1992-93 season schedule, which opened with a narrow victory over Hall of Famer Herb Magee's Division II Philadelphia Textile Rams (now known as Jefferson University). Or perhaps you'd prefer to see a vintage Georgetown/St. Leo result. Either way, we've now got it! We'd like to thank Kevin Johnson for providing us with this improved information. Please keep your eyes peeled for further enhancements on this front in the future.

Our new Stathead Basketball tools for searching our college basketball database feature ways to search for NCAA Tournament games. Due to major changes in the format and round nomenclature over the years, it is tricky to search for exactly what you're looking for using strictly round names. And so we have added some search groupings that will hopefully make all of this a bit more clear. Read the rest of this entry
