A woman has died following a multi-vehicle collision. The incident occurred on the A548 near Gwespyr village in Flintshire on Thursday afternoon and has prompted an appeal from police for witnesses to come forward.

In a statement from North Wales Police's roads policing unit on Friday morning the force said: "At 4.26pm on Thursday, April 24, we received a report of a collision involving four vehicles on the A548 Mostyn Road, Flintshire near to the junction for Gwespyr Village.

"Emergency services attended, however, sadly the driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers."

Sergeant Leigh McCann of the roads crime unit has called for anyone with information to step forward.

He said: "Sadly this incident is being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision and our thoughts are with the lady's family at this very difficult time.

"We are urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who was travelling or walking along Mostyn Road, near the junction for Gwespyr Village and who may have any information or dash camera footage to contact us.

"The road has now opened, and we'd like to thank everyone for their patience."

The A548 in Tanlan, Ffynnongroyw in Holywell was closed in both directions for hours following the crash while accident investigation work was carried out.

The force is appealing for witnesses and has asked anyone with information to get in touch with the roads policing unit either through the live webchat or by phoning 101, quoting reference number C058038.
