Pay-TV broadcaster Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) has acquired the exclusive television and digital rights for the 2021 Copa America across the Indian sub-continent.
South America's flagship national team soccer tournament will be broadcast in India live on SPN’s sports channels and live streamed on SonyLIV, SPN’s over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform, from 14th June to 11th July. The broadcast territories will include India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Originally scheduled to take place in June and July 2020, the competition was postponed by a year due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic across South America.
With the addition of the Copa America rights, SPN’s soccer portfolio now includes the Uefa Champions League, Uefa Europa League, Uefa Euro 2020, Uefa Nations League, Fifa European qualifiers, the FA Cup and Serie A.
Commenting on the deal, Rajesh Kaul, chief revenue officer, distribution and head of SPN India, said: “With this acquisition, we will be presenting our viewers the best of international football from Europe to South America through the months of June and July. From Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappé in the Uefa Euro 2020 to Lionel Messi and Neymar in the Copa America 2021, our football calendar will showcase the best football players and teams from across the world.”
The Copa America will kick off on 13th June, in Buenos Aires, Argentina and will end on 10th July, with the final in Barranquilla, Colombia.
